Habitat for Humanity of the Middle Keys President, Bruce Ferraro, along with Dr. Joseph Burke, Monroe County School District Superintendent and Marathon High School Principal, Harry Russell, recently signed a contract for the 2nd partnership on a HABITECH Project. This joint venture was an incredible success for the 2008-2009 school year and the first construction joint venture for Habitat. The students, teachers and mentors of Marathon High School worked with Habitat to construct an entire home on school premises and assist in transporting the home to its final destination for a very deserving Marathon family. The 2009-2010 school year will allow new students to help build the 2nd HABITECH home.
Congratulations to Habitat of the Middle Keys, the Marathon High School students and the city of Marathon for such an incredible joint venture.
In addition to creating affordable housing, Habitat has created a Scholarship fund for a graduating Senior who worked on this project. The HABITECH Scholarship will continue for each house that the school produces.
